UK GDP increased 7.5% in 2021, the fastest annual growth rate in the UK since the second world war and making the UK one of the world’s fastest growing economies last year. But this “rise” must be considered in the light of the UK being amongst countries worst affected by the COVID-19 pandemic which led to a 9.4% fall in GDP in 2020 at a time when there was already uncertainty due to the country’s departure from the EU.

COVID Casts Long Shadow Over The European Furniture Sector. ITTO European Market Report January 31st 2022

For the European furniture sector, as in other industries, the COVID pandemic is casting a long shadow, with no certainty yet that the most dramatic swings in supply and demand are in the past. Several European countries, including France and Italy, were reporting record numbers of new daily COVID cases in the last week of January, the increase due to the emergence and rapid spread of the new Omicron variant, first detected in South Africa.

Trade In Tropical Hardwood Logs At Lowest Level Ever Recorded As Tropical Forest Sector Hit Hard By COVID. ITTO Market Report 31 August 2021

Yokohama, 30 August 2021: Tropical log production declined by 3% in 2020 due largely to the COVID-19 pandemic, and imports plummeted by 11%, according to ITTO’s Biennial Review and Assessment of the World Timber Situation 2019–2020, which was released today. The flagship report provides data on the production and trade of primary and secondary processed wood products in 73 countries worldwide.
